Licensing Law

Licensing

Introduction

Whether you are starting a new business, taking over an existing business or continuing to run your own business we are here to help with all matters that require a Licence.  For example if you wish to sell or supply alcohol, provide entertainment (like live or recorded music, sporting events etc), the provision of hot food after 11pm and gaming and betting.

We have considerable experience in all such matters including (but not limited to):-

  • Applying for or Varying Premises Licences for pubs, clubs and restaurants
  • Applying for or Varying Club Premises Certificates
  • Obtaining Temporary Event Notices for one-off events or functions
  • Applying for Betting and Gaming Licences/permits
  • Review Hearings and Appeals
  • Obtaining Personal Licences to enable individuals to be authorised to sell/supply alcohol

If you hold a current Licence we may be able to vary that Licence to include more activities or to extend your opening hours. These applications can greatly improve your profitability.

Our Approach

There are many technical requirements to be met in Licensing matters but many of these you can leave in our safe hands whilst you concentrate on running or setting up your business. We provide you with the necessary notices, arrange for publication of adverts in the Press and ensure that all deadlines are complied with.

We aim to explain the process to you in terms that you understand and have an established history of working with the necessary authorities to ensure that applications proceed as smoothly and quickly as possible.

Where objections are raised to your application we aim to resolve these by negotiation where possible but we have experienced advocates who will fight your case at hearing should it prove necessary.

Costs

Often we will be able to agree with you a fixed fee for dealing with the matter or alternatively agree a costs cap to work to. We will also provide details of the other fees that you are likely to have to pay out for such as the application fee or newspaper advertisement fee in order that you know what the total cost will be.
