Maples Succeed/Application/restriction for press
In one of our high profile criminal cases which was attracting significant media attention both nationally and locally Maples has successfully applied to the Crown Court for an order which restricts the image of our client from being published and to prevent details of the client’s address including the county in which our client resides from being published.
The Order was made under the Contempt of Court Act 1981 s11 and any breach of the Order could be dealt with by a period of imprisonment or a fine against the offending party. It is unusual for this type of Order to be obtained as the fundamental principle in the Criminal Courts is that not only will justice be done, but it will be seen to be done.
Clearly due to the highly sensitive nature of the case, we are unable to furnish you with any further details save to say this is yet another example of the top quality service that we continue to provide to our clients.
Should you require any advice in respect of Criminal Law, Regulatory Offences or Motoring matters please do not hesitate to contact Daven Naghen or Anita Toal on our office number.

Maples Thanked by College
As part of our commitment to the local Community, Daven Naghen, one of the Partners in our firm, attended Spalding Magistrates Court to assist The Peele Community College in preparing for the Mock Trials Competition.
The students visited Spalding Magistrates Court and Mr Naghen assisted the pupils in their analysis of the case and presentation of their arguments to the Court.
A letter of thanks was recieved from Assistant Headteacher Stuart Morrow confirming that in the competition the students “did themselves proud with some highly credible performances. Whilst we did not win on the day we held our own and really came across very polished winning one case and narrowly losing another case. The overall experience gained by the students was superb and we are incredibly grateful for your guidance and input with the prosecution and defence cases.”
Commenting on the matter Mr Naghen indicated “It was pleasing to see that the students had got a good grip on the relevant law in respect of Common Assault and that they were not diverted away from the real issues in the case by mention in the paperwork of self-defence. Hopefully the ability to get up and speak in front of other people is a skill and an experience that all of the students will benefit from whatever careers they ultimately pursue. I would echo the sentiments of Mr Morrow that all the students involved should be proud of their work.”

Solicitor studies for Second Degree “just for fun
Anita Toal, our Managing Partner, recently graduated from Open University with a 2:1 Honours degree in Humanities with Literature. The presentation of this degree came 23 years after Anita received her first degree in Law!
Anita who works full time and has two children, has been studying for her degree for the past six years in her spare time. She says she did it “just for fun” and added that “my children think i’m crazy!”
Anita along with her husband and children, spent the weekend in London, to celebrate the achievement. They attended the ceremony at the Barbican, the very same place where Anita received her first degree.
As to whether or not Anita shall be studying again, she doesn’t know, but commented that studying with the Open University was “very addictive!”
